Destin, FL is the perfect location for a pirate shoot because Florida and its Panhandle have a rich pirate history. Anne Bonny is one of Florida's only famous pirate vixens. Although she never commanded a ship, I am sure she plunder a lot of booty!

Anne Bonny

Anne Bonny (1697 – maybe 1782) was originally from Ireland but ruled the Caribbean and Floridan seas. Her mother was a servant, and her father was a married attorney who employed Anne's mom!

Romance

Records indicated that Anne was an attractive redhead with a hot temper. Although it appears she had a choice of suiters, Anne ended up marrying a small-time pirate named James Bonny. Anne's father disowned her.

Pirate Republic Ahoy

Anne and her husband moved just off the South Floridan coast to Nassau, Bahamas, home to the Pirate Republic. Living at the heart of the pirate empire exposed Anne to the pirate way of life.

Pirate Passion

She and the infamous Calico Jack had an extraordinary love affair. Their passion was so strong, Jack tried offering Anne's husband money for Anne. After James refused, Jack and Anne ran off together to plunder and pillage.

Mary Read

Another legendary seafaring lass is Mary Read. Before Mary was born, her mother was a proud mother and a sailor's wife. But Alas, fate brought tragedy upon the English matron.

Family Drama

Mary's mom's woes began when her husband disappeared at sea. After his disappearance, her life gained a glimmer of sparkle when a love affair began. However, that spark died after resulting in an illegitimate pregnancy.

Wanting to conceal her pregnancy, Mary's mum moved to the country. Around the time of Mary's birth, Mary's brother died. The boy's paternal grandmother provided financial support for the child. Without him, there would be no means to support the family. So, under mother's guidence, Mary dressed as a boy and pretended to be her brother, receiving money from "grandma" through her teens.

Passionate Profit

Still dressed in drag, Mary joined the British army. She was a champion on the battlefield and a charmer with the gentlemen. Mary fell in love and married a Flemish soldier, but that did not stop her from accepting cash and gifts from infatuated military men. She saved money from her Military service and her men and was able to buy an inn in the Netherlands.

Pirate Reed

After Mary's husband died, she went back to being Mark and joined the Dutch army, but it was too peaceful to profit. She decided to head to the West Indies via ship. Mary was not phased when pirates invaded that ship. She gleefully joined their crew.

Vixens Vigor

Disguised as a man, Mary Read joined Anne Bonne and Calico Jack. Mary grew an intense attraction to Anne. Wanting to be more than friends, she confessed to being a woman.

Blood & Lust

Many believe the two women were romantically involved. There are accounts of Calico Jack's jealousy over Mary and Anne's relationship and of the girl's fondness for each other. Witness accounts of the pirate vixens describe them as ruthless, violent, and busty.
